Screencast-O-Matic is one of the fastest, easiest ways to create screencasts with no software to download. It’s one of my go-to sites for the flipped classroom. It’s perfect for narrating PowerPoint or Keynote presentations, or explaining an illustration. One of my favorite uses is to create video instructions for teaching a computer skill. Watch a quick video demo here.
The free account allows you to record up to 15 minutes (more than enough for any flipped classroom video). A handy yellow halo follows your cursor around the screen on your finished video. Free hosting of your videos is available, or you can save the video file to your hard drive. You can also publish to YouTube HD, Google Drive, Vimeo, and more. The free version does not offer editing tools, but you can back up your recording and re-record sections.
To get started just go to www.screencast-o-matic.com and click START RECORDING. Select the area of your screen that you would like to record and choose whether or not you would like to appear in the video using your webcam (you can always remove yourself later).
